Spirituality is a journey of self transformation that leads in two different directions: towards experience (the inner dimension), and towards the body (of existence as a physical and biological reality). Rather than opposed, these two paths tend to intertwine, to overlap, for example when meditation includes practices related to physicality, to techniques that the ancient world defined as “nutrition” of the body and soul. But the end points differ. The path of the soul involves a transformation that sees itself through history and sets itself goals of redemption, of salvation. That of the body, in contrast, concerns that which is not historical — the polarity between life and death and the eternal recurrence of the same conflicts — and often leads to a tragic vision of existence.<\/p>\n
As an expression of community values, choral music has always been concerned with the most universal aspects of the search for spirituality, whether they be religious or secular. More than in other kinds of music, choral music often involves a reflection of the human race.
