Lucia Ronchetti

Born in Rome in 1963, Lucia Ronchetti studied composition and electronic music at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome and graduated in Music History at La Sapienza University in Rome. She studied with Gérard Grisey in Paris from 1994, attended the Ircam Annual Course and completed a PhD in musicology at the École Pratique des Hautes Études en Sorbonne under the direction of Prof. François Lesure. In 2005, she was Visiting Scholar (Fulbright fellow) at Columbia University in New York at the invitation of Tristan Murail. In 2021, her new opera Inferno will be conducted at Oper Frankfurt by Tito Ceccherini. The world premiere of the chamber opera Pinocchios Abenteuer will be presented at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, in a production directed by Swaantje Lena Kleff. A further new production of the chamber opera Pinocchios Abenteuer will be given Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf as well as in Duisburg, Bonn and Dortmund. In 2020-21, Lucia Ronchetti will be professor of composition at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse and visiting professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt. From 1991 to 1995 Lucia Ronchetti was artistic director of the Festival Animato at Rome’s Sala1, a collaboration with curator Mary Angela Schroth. She will be the new artistic director of the Venice Music Biennale from 2021 to 2024. Tiziano Scarpa, Ermanno Cavazzoni, IvanVladislavic, Eugene Ostashevsky, Katja Petrowskaja, Iso Camartin and Toti Scialoja have written original texts for her operas and Action concert pieces.
